![]() ![]() The Wars of the Roses played out with New York City cops and robbers. It's a weird thing when you first realize it, brilliant and almost subversive as you watch it play out across the pages. He's clever enough to get away with what is essentially a double prologue (in a universe where, most times, one is too many), but his best trick is a buried, pulsing, live-wire second plot that hums just beneath the surface of the first: The Force is basically Game of Thrones without the dragons. ![]() He's smart enough to be tricky without looking like he's being tricky. An instant classic, an epic, a goddamn Wagner opera with a full cast and buckets of blood and smack and Jameson whiskey. Like can't-put-it-down, can't-get-the-voices-out-of-your-head fantastic. Trust me when I tell you that you gotta read this book not because it's beautiful (it isn't) and not because Winslow is a virtuoso stylist (he isn't) and not because it's one of those Important Books that everyone will be talking about (they will), but because it is just fantastic. ![]()

I have been enjoying each book more than the former so I hope that continues. It was also nice to see one more vampire and Ridcully again.Īcceptance of differences and commentary about social class seem to be the big themes in the City Watch series and I love that. Once again the matters of prejudice are addressed not only about the gollems, but also about werewolves. The themes about the creation of life and who deserves rights addressed through the gollems’ plot were also really good and my favourite part of the book. This book also made me like Sam Vimes more. They are probably my favourite members of the Watch now. I really liked how gender was addressed with the introduction of Cheery, a dwarf and new member of the City Watch. ![]() ![]() There is no trace of anything alive having been at the crime scene, which leaves the city police wandering if a weapon can be blamed for murder. In this Discworld entry we are following the Watch as they are trying to find who is behind the murders and the poisoning of the patrician Vetinari. I really liked the themes addressed in this one, especially the gollems plot and the one with the new member of the watch. I liked this one a bit more than “Men at Arms” so it seems like I like the City Watch more with every book. ![]() ![]() ![]() There are four types of symptoms that are part of PTSD and some additional symptoms for Complex PTSD as listed below. Miralee was able to write a book full of emotion that I think many women can relate to. She must find the strength, wisdom, hope, and faith to remake her life, for everything is about to change. Then she crosses paths with Micah Jacobs, a widower who could reignite her heart, but she fears a relationship with him might send things over the edge. And with a daughter entering the teenage years, the pressure on Katherine becomes close to overwhelming. Katherine must make the situation work, but standing up for herself and her family while honoring her mother isn't easy. Things don't get easier when her critical, domineering mother moves in. In 1880, three years after her husband’s death, she struggles to run an Oregon boardinghouse and raise two girls alone. Katherine Galloway knew this moment of calm wouldn’t last, blown away like the dandelion seeds she scattered as a girl. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Michael Schaub, a journalist and regular contributor to NPR, lives near Austin, Texas. Three years ago, the Covid-19 pandemic struck the United States, and the economy sputtered in the direction of collapse. Are we-we the secure, the insured, the housed, the college educated, the lucky-somehow responsible for all this suffering?” In a statement to the AP, Desmond said, “To understand the causes of poverty, we must hold a mirror up to ourselves. “The well-off exploit the poor, driving down their wages while forcing them to overpay for housing and access to cash and credit.” In Poverty, by America, Desmond “argues that affluent Americans knowingly and unknowingly work to keep poor people poor,” Crown says.
