They find her overly precocious and unbelievable, and don’t find Bradley’s books appealing. ![]() But those who don’t find her charming really can’t stand her. They appreciate her ingenuity and utter lack of fear in delving into the deepest and darkest mysteries. ![]() Those who enjoy these books absolutely adore the resolute and crafty eleven-year-old. Yes, I read the third book in the series before the second one and it seems like I've made the right choice. I particularly enjoyed the titular story, Ghost Lover, which was told in the second person. I felt completely gripped by Taddeo’s writing - each story had a similar style but also had distinguishing qualities too. ![]() There are lots of very sensitive and distressing topics discussed in this book so I definitely recommend looking up trigger warnings if you’re concerned. There were so many hard-hitting and emotional observational comments sewn in so casually, that it didn’t feel like I was reading about something heavy and harrowing until that sucker punch line got me right in the feels. ![]() I felt so moved by so many parts of these stories. The main themes that connect these nine stories are the fever of obsession, the blindness of love, and the mania of grief. ![]() I only knew it was a collection of short stories. I knew nothing about this book before I started reading - I hadn’t seen anybody talk about it, and I hadn’t read the blurb. ![]() ![]() Then there are people for whom the Beatles were a really important part of their professional lives, like George Martin or Geoff Emerick, and talking about them in their case also means talking about their own contributions and accomplishments, which if I'd done something as amazing as their producing/engineering I certainly would want to. Which makes talking about it basically fair game. On the other hand, if you're the president of the fan club, then by definition the connection is already a public one, it came as part of the publicity machine of the music industry, even if it later turned into something friendlier. ![]() ![]() Among other things, it ensured she's thought of as Jane Asher, actress, not "one of Paul McCartney's former girlfriends". I've always admired Jane Asher for not telling any stories (either on Paul or on the other Beatles), beyond the few sentences she said to Michael Braun and Hunter Davies when the relationship still existed. ![]() |
